Three players have hit NHL waivers today per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, with two of those players being veterans of the Minnesota Wild. It's been an unusually active period of the year for waiver wire activity, with several teams, including the Vancouver Canucks, making roster moves yesterday.
The Minnesota Wild waive two veterans
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Minnesota Wild have placed veteran center Devin Shore and rookie forward Ben Jones on waivers. Few would be terribly surprised to see Jones hit waivers. The 25-year-old rookie has no points through 25 games this season. With just 23 shots on goal, 10 PIM, and averaging out a little above eight minutes per game, he likely factors as a player with less upside both with and without the puck. Shore, on the other hand, is a bit more surprising. Like Jones, his production hasn't been much different, just one assist in 24 games, along with a -4 rating, but he is a seasoned NHL veteran with over 400 games under his belt.

At 30 years old, however, Shore may well be closing in on the tail end of his career. If unclaimed, it could very well signal the end of his time in the NHL.
Tampa Bay waives Gage Goncalves
Of course, the Wild aren't the only ones making moves today. The Tampa Bay Lightning also placed young center Gage Goncalves on waivers this morning.

The 23-year-old Goncalves has just two points in 26 games this season, which almost certainly played a part in the move. The question now becomes which, if any of these players, will find new homes, or clear through waivers to stay within their current organizations. We will know in less than 24 hours.
