Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk is on an expiring contract this year. As such, there will likely be interest around the league in him.

Bruins Yet To Re-Sign Top Free Agent Forward

Jake DeBrusk has developed into a key part of the Bruins lineup. That being said, the team has yet to offer him a contract extension. He is currently on an expiring contract that carries a 4 million dollar cap hit. However, the forward recently revealed in an interview that he is interested in re-signing with the Bruins.

"Yeah, of course, that's what I've been consistent with since I think the first time I was asked was in the summer but yeah. This is all I know, and I grew up here and have obviously evolved and grown in different ways. It's one of those things where I want to win here. We were one game away in '19, and I want to win a Cup here in Boston. So that's my complete focus."

The 27-year-old forward is coming off a career year with 27 goals and 50 points in 64 games last year. So far this year he has 12 goals and 25 points in 47 games with the team.

Both Alberta NHL Teams Linked To DeBrusk

Pierre McGuire linked the Bruins forward to the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames today. He gave his certified guarantee that he would sign with one of these two teams should the Bruins choose not to re-sign the forward.

"But here's what I do know: If the Bruins don't sign him and, I don't know if they will or won't, I'm sure they value him I guarantee him an Alberta team will offer him a major contract. I guarantee you, whether it's Edmonton or Calgary, he's going to be taken care of in the province of Alberta. That's if Boston doesn't sign him, and that's not a scare tactic; it's reality. I mean, there's a need there for that type of player."

Its safe to say that the 27-year-old forward is due a raise from his team. While he recently went through a cold stretch, his play over the last two seasons seems to warrant a substantial increase on his 4 million dollar salary. One fan suggested that the team offer him 5.5 million dollars a year.

Give Jake DeBrusk 6 years by $5.5 and let's move on. He's back

It is a price that the Bruins likely are willing to pay. It would be a relatively modest raise for a proven scorer at the NHL level. The only question that remains is whether or not the team thinks re-signing him would be in their best long-term interests.
