Rumor: Maple Leafs In Trade Talks With Western Canadian Team

The Toronto Maple Leafs are 5-3-2 to begin the NHL season. While this record is fine and has them in the playoff conversation it is not at the standard that the Maple Leafs have set for themselves.

The Maple Leafs additions up front have struggled to produce. Tyler Bertuzzi has infamously been in hot water with the Maple Leafs fanbase in recent days. Ryan Reaves was not expected to provide offense but instead a physical presence which he has.

William Nylander adds another complication to things for the Maple Leafs. He is on fire but still does not have an extension. With his value at an all-time high, this could be the right time to move him. His price has surely gone up since the beginning of the season and an extension is less likely as days go by.

Luckily for the Maple Leafs rumors have been flying that a superstar forward could be available.

New rumors have been swirling that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks have discussed a blockbuster swap.

The Toronto Maple Leafs would give up William Nylander and in exchange, they would receive Brock Boeser. Both players are producing at similar rates this season and provide unique benefits to the team they would be acquired by.

The Maple Leafs would get around 3 million dollars in salary cap space. Boeser is also under contract next season giving the Leafs added flexibility for next year. For the Canucks they get a highly talented player that they could lock up long-term immediately.

There have been reports that Brock Boeser might want to leave Vancouver after his contract is up. If the Canucks could do a sign and trade with Nylander it would give them a star player guaranteed to be in town with their other core pieces.

While this is just a rumor for now this would be an electric trade and a fun day in the NHL if it were to happen.
