Keefe Calls Out Entire Leafs Roster, Including Core-Four

The veteran head coach admitted after their most recent loss to the Oilers that he does not know which players he can rely on in key moments. This is likely due to the fact that the team has consistently blown leads in games, especially as of late. Keefe has tried multiple strategies in terms of player usage, none of which seem to get the job done.

Leafs Core Players To Blame For Recent Struggles?

This is a damning thing for a coach to say about his team this late into the season. These comments are especially damning for the Leafs core players, who are supposed to be getting the lion's share of ice-time, especially late in games when they are trying to maintain their leads.

Notably, William Nylander has yet to record a point since he signed his eight-year extension with the team. He has only played four games since that historic moment for the Leafs, but the early returns are already a bit concerning considering the fact that he was on a career pace before signing the contract.

Also notable is that fact that all the Leafs top scorers are barely above zero in terms of plus minus. While it is a flawed stat, it does give a general idea that the Leafs top players have not been very sound defensively this season. Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Mitch Marner are a combined +16 despite being combined for 154 points. At this point, it seems as though the Leafs top players are not all that interested in playing to the best of their abilities.
