If there is one aspect that has been hurting the Habs for the past several games, it is the power play.

The Tricolore's power-play unit is having a detrimental effect on Martin St-Louis' team right now, as it is increasingly affecting the morale of the players.

Even Nick Suzuki came out publicly after the last game, saying that there was a real problem with the team's confidence. Nothing seems to be working, while the club is desperately lacking a real good offensive defenseman to orchestrate the offense with the man advantage.

The Habs about to make another personnel move?

There are options internally to come in and give this power-play unit a second life. There are currently two defensemen who are doing a colossal job offensively in Laval right now. I'm talking about Justin Barron and Nicolas Beaudin.

Freshly back in the lineup, Barron picked up where he left off before his injury as he finished the weekend with one goal and two assists. The 21-year-old is a trusted member of his head coach Jean-Francois Houle's staff. The 2020 first round pick has seven goals and 16 points in 24 games. He has four goals and four assists in his last 10 games.

Beaudin has two goals and 11 points in 13 games. The 23-year-old Quebecer has been playing a very good game since the beginning of the season. Once seen as an offensive-minded defenseman, the former first-round pick in 2018 is coming back from a rough season with the Blackhawks' feeder club last year.

Could Kent Hughes give one of the two defensemen a call? Honestly, I think both of these options could certainly provide a breath of fresh air to the defensive brigade.

Could Barron offer a more interesting game than a Johnathan Kovacevic, for example?

Again, I think so, Barron is certainly not as efficient in his own zone as Kovacevic, however he is without a doubt much better offensively and this is an aspect that is sorely lacking with Montreal's defensive unit.
