This summer, Kent Hughes looked like a genius once again, sending Mike Hoffman and his hefty contract to San Jose in a three-team deal with the Penguins and Sharks.

What's most surprising is that the GM didn't withhold any salary. The Sharks took the ball and chain that comes with it. However, even if the forward plays on their first line, he may well be just passing through California.

That's according to informant David Pagnotta. According to him, if he performs well, Hoffman will be traded again.

"Anthony Duclair and Mike Hoffman are two players who could be traded by the Sharks if they perform well."

- David Pagnotta

Hoffman is in the last year of his contract, although he was already on a professional trial before this one. It feels like the end for him, so he has no choice but to give it his all this season if he still hopes to play next year.

That said, there's a good chance he'll perform well enough to catch the eye of one or more teams ahead of the playoff race. After all, Hoffman has slowed down, but he's still capable of scoring goals.
