The Edmonton Oilers came into 2023-24 as a firm Stanley Cup favourite out West, but with just five points through the teams first eight games, clearly something has to change.

A blockbuster free agent signing

While they've got plenty of competition for his signature, it appears as though the Oilers are now entering themselves in the race to land three-time Stanley Cup Champion Patrick Kane.

Nothing appears imminent, but recent reports suggest that the Oilers want to bring in the former Blackhawks and Rangers star, who has been a free agent all summer as he rehabs a hip injury, and now, the bidding war could heat up very soon.

Troubles on the right side

The Oilers were tentatively linked to Kane at points over the summer, but after landing Connor Brown, many believe that they had filled out their roster, but with no points through eight games and a -5 rating, he's been a terrible option on the right side.

Beyond Zach Hyman, this leaves them with just Warren Foegele as options on the right, but if they could convince Kane that his pairing with McDavid and Draisaitl could take them to the Stanley Cup Finals, this team would once again be a genuine threat to win it all.
