The Battle of Alberta was in full swing when these two teams clashed for the third time this season on Saturday night, and it was highlighted by this physical and surprising encounter.
Blake Coleman drops the gloves after massive hit
During the first period, Calgary Flames veteran Blake Coleman laid out Connor McDavid, and unsurprisingly, it led to his teammates standing up for him. Blake Coleman levels McDavid and Mattias Janmark takes exception the fkn Battle of Alberta fellas

The hit on McDavid to start the fight was a clean one, but given his standing in the NHL, it's no surprise that his teammates took that hit personally, and what followed was a brutal fight. While Coleman was on the backfoot early, he held his own and managed to land a few shots of his own, despite not being known as much of a fighter in the NHL throughout his career. Ultimately, both men look like they were cut open during the encounter, and it wouldn't be the only scuffle on the night in what turn out to be an incredibly physical and chippy Battle of Alberta. The Flames would come away with the 6-3 win on the back of a solid performance from every player on their roster, but now perhaps more players will think twice before going after McDavid like that.
