Heading into the trade deadline, rumours began swirling that the Vancouver Canucks were engaging in three-team trade talks with Boston and Pittsburgh, but those talks may have back fired.

Leaked trade rumours lead to trouble for Vancouver

Those trade talks involved newly acquired forward Elias Lindholm, and according to Elliotte Friedman, the trade rumours being leaked got back to the former Calgary Flame, forcing the Canucks to go into damage control.

"The Canucks did have to do some damage control with Elias Lindholm. They weren't happy it got out they even remotely considered moving him. (It was hard to tell who was angrier: Vancouver about that, or Los Angeles about speculation of who might have been involved in an Ullmark move.) In the end, I don't believe the three-way between Boston, Pittsburgh and Vancouver came anywhere close to occurring." Friedman said.

Friedman also reveals that the trade never came close to happening, but just the fact that they considered moving Lindholm, just weeks after giving up a haul for him may have rubbed the Swedish star the wrong way.

Ultimately, the Canucks may not be happy with the production of Lindholm since his arrival, so moving him would have made sense, but without the deal coming to fruition, it's a very bad look for them. Now, the team will hope he can turn it around on both ends and help them push for a Stanley Cup, as he is set to hit free agency this summer, and after this move, it's highly unlikely that he stays in Vancouver.
