There's been many intriguing stories around the NHL as of late, but none more mind boggling than the Philadelphia Flyers decision to healthy scratch Captain Sean Couturier.
Sean Couturier blasts his recent treatment by the Flyers
After being named captain just 34 days ago, Couturier has been healthy scratched by Head Coach John Tortorella, but now the 31-year old veteran has lashed out at the move. Couturier: I've been putting the work in for a while. I've been struggling, but I've been working on my game, and it's frustrating the way I've been treated around here lately. But it is what it is.

Couturier certainly hasn't been at his best this season, but he's a fantastic veteran and leader for a team that find themselves just one point up on the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The move was accepted by GM Danny Briere, who applauded Tortorella's method of treating everyone the same, but it appears that Couturier certainly doesn't agree. In 64 games this season, the Flyers captain has 11 goals and 36 points, so while he's not been poor, he admits that he's struggled with his game, so he may be angry about the situation for now, but perhaps a game off may do him the world of good. At this point though, only time will tell, but benching your captain certainly isn't a move that most coaches around the NHL would make in 2024.
