Elias Lindholm was a major acquisition for the Vancouver Canucks ahead of the trade deadline, and while much was expected of him, he has been quite disappointing in his time with the team thus far.
Does Lindholm have a future with the Vancouver Canucks?
With just three goals and seven points in 19 games with the team, as well as a -5 goal differential, Lindholm hasn't been the player that the Canucks were expecting, and it's certainly hurting extension talks. When asked about Lindholm's future with the team, General Manager Patrik Allvin had this to say about the veteran center; «Initially when we made the deal, I talked to his camp and said our intention was to sign him,» Allvin said. «But obviously it's got to work for both sides. We'll see. I think it's been a little bit of an adjustment time for him. And in fairness, the whole team hasn't played great, we knew we were going to have a tough February schedule workload-wise, it was heavy and we got out of it with a .500 record which is the reason we're still sitting at the top I think. «But as I said earlier, we've got guys who haven't played in important games in March.» Those comments make it sound like the team are just as disappointed in his play as the fans are, and with his pending free agency, the team are certainly prepared to let him walk this summer. However, Allvin comments on the Canucks lack of playoff experience, something that Lindholm has, so if he can step up when the playoffs arrive, the conversation may be a little different. Lindholm has been a major disappointment for both Calgary and Vancouver since he left the line of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk, and after turning down big money from the Flames last summer, it's tough to see what his value is if he hits the market this summer.
