The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost Dakota Mermis to the Western Conference on waivers, while the Oilers have placed one of their defensemen on the waiver wire. The big surprise indeed today on the waiver wire was for the Toronto Maple Leafs losing defenceman Dakota <a href='https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/utah-hockey-club-claims-d-dakota-mermis-off-waivers-from-toronto-maple-leafs-1.2219127' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Mermis on waivers to the Utah Hockey Club</a>, and that was truly a bummer with <a href='https://www.nhl.com/utah/player/dakota-mermis-8477541' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Dakota Mermis</a> being such a great depth option. <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1867283738012659847'> </a></blockquote></div> Having been touted with a lot of high praise as a sound defender, now his loss means the Leafs are searching for depth options on the back end. The Winnipeg Jets also placed forward Henri Nikkanen on waivers for contract termination.
