Throughout this week there have been many questions about what the <a href='https://www.nhl.com/oilers/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Edmonton Oilers</a> would do and now they have made a trade with the <a href='https://www.nhl.com/sharks/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>San Jose Sharks</a>. According to a report from insider David Pagnotta the Edmonton Oilers are making yet another upgrade on defense ahead of the trade deadline. In a deal with the San Jose Sharks, the Edmonton Oilers will be landing dynamic two-way defenseman Jake Walman. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/TheFourthPeriod/status/1897800921251246550'> </a></blockquote></div> <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/NHLNetwork/status/1897803409509486811'> </a></blockquote></div> <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/puckempire/status/1897803302508626112'> </a></blockquote></div> <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/thefourthperiod/status/1897803121482776893'> </a></blockquote></div> The trade has now also been confirmed by Elliotte Friedman Jake Walman will be an Edmonton Oiler. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1897805341233938555'> </a></blockquote></div> According to Pagnotta the return for the Sharks is expected to be significant including potentially a first-round pick when the trade is set and done. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/thefourthperiod/status/1897804423612469567'> </a></blockquote></div> A report from Frank Seravalli has now revealed that there could be a delay in the trade coming to a close as the Oilers due to roster limit issues which will be resolved at midnight tonight. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/frank_seravalli/status/1897813407123796403'> </a></blockquote></div> Walman has bounced around over the last few seasons from the <a href='https://www.nhl.com/blues/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>St. Louis Blues</a> to the <a href='https://www.nhl.com/redwings/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Detroit Red Wings</a> and then the San Jose Sharks. Despite the Sharks being one of the worst teams in the NHL this season, Walman has been a bright spot, scoring 32 points in 50 games. At 6'1 Walman is a hyper-mobile defenseman who brings real flash offensively from time to time and can be an elite transition defender. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/domluszczyszyn/status/1897806542147137769'> </a></blockquote></div> The Oilers have been looking for upgrades on defense for the last several weeks with GM Stan Bowman openly admitting defense was a major priority. Walman likely now steps into power play two for the Edmonton Oilers giving the team a true second offensive defenseman with John Klingberg stepping back into less of a prominent role. This continues to take the pressure off of Evan Bouchard who for much of last season had to carry the entire offensive load for the Edmonton Oilers on defense. It remains to be seen what the Edmonton Oilers gave up to acquire Walman and as those details are made available we will pass them along to you. Now with the addition of Walman the Oilers can move on to other potential needs over the next 12 hours before the deadline passes.
