Today one of the biggest trades that has been in the works for weeks has finally gotten done with disgruntled Blue Jackets defenseman David Jiricek heading to Minnesota. The Columbus Blue Jackets continue to restructure their roster under new General Manager Don Waddell. After making several signings over the summer to add impact players to the NHL roster the Blue Jackets have made a trade to impact the future. According to multiple reports, the Blue Jackets have traded the former 6th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft David Jiricek to the Minnesota Wild.

Further reports have confirmed that David Jiricek will be heading to Minnesota while the Columbus Blue Jackets will receive Damon Hunt, 2025 1st Round Pick, 2027 2nd Round Pick, and a 4th Round Pick.

This is a huge haul for the Columbus Blue Jackets especially considering they were backed into a corner with David Jiricek essentially publicly stating he wanted to be traded. The Blue Jackets land multiple draft picks to help further their continuing rebuild as well as veteran defenseman Daemon Hunt who can play in a depth role with less drawbacks. As for the Minnesota Wild side of things, they get a very raw but promising two-way defenseman for the future. While David Jiricek has struggled at the NHL level this season with just one point in six games he has been great in the AHL tallying 3 points in 4 games.

It will be interesting to see if David Jiricek can find the magic that got him drafted 6th overall and find a more offensive important role in the State of Hockey with the Minnesota Wild.
