The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired Mathias Laferriere from the St. Louis Blues, in a trade today, despite the fact that the NHL is currently on a two-week break.

The St. Louis Blues are going to be receiving Corey Andonovski from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Mathias Laferriere.

Andonovski was never drafted in the NHL and unfortunately has yet to ever place a single game in the league, as he has spent most of his time playing in the AHL.

Andonovski, 25, has just three goals and five points in 27 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He joined the Penguins after three years at Princeton University.

Overall, the Uxbridge, Ontario, native has totaled 18 goals, 36 assists, and 182 penalty minutes in 157 career AHL regular-season games. Andonovski will report to the Blues' AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Both players traded have never played a single NHL game yet

Laferriere was a 6th-round draft pick of the Blues back in 2018, and he too, has never played a single NHL game. Laferriere has just two goals and 10 points in 33 games this season with the Springfield Thunderbirds.

The Montreal, Quebec, native has recorded 21 goals, 49 assists, and 62 penalty minutes in 207 career AHL regular-season games.

Perhaps a change of scenery for these two players will be exactly what is needed for them to finally find success at the NHL level. Both players are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents this summer.

Despite the fact that the 4 Nations tournament is ongoing, there has not been a roster freeze implemented by Gary Bettman, which is why there may continue to be trades this entire week despite there not being any NHL games.
