The Boston Bruins have decided who will start in goal for them tonight against the Florida Panthers, and it's not going to be Jeremy Swayman.

Joonas Korpisalo will play in goal for the Bruins in their Tuesday opening game against the Florida Panthers as reported by Steve Goldstein of Bally Sports Florida. He indicates that this should obviously be temporary as Jeremy Swayman still needs a little time to settle in after finally signing a new contract.

Swayman missed all of preseason due to ongoing contract negotiations but inked a massive eight-year, $66 million deal over the weekend. With Swayman now under contract, the Bruins expect that Korpisalo, 30, will return to his usual backup role after Tuesday's game. He probably won't see more than 30 appearances this season.

Jeremy Swayman, 25, enters his first full season as the Bruins' number one goalie after splitting time in the Boston crease with Linus Ullmark over the last two seasons. Ullmark was traded to Ottawa. Last season, Swayman had a GAA of 2.53 and a save percentage of .916.

Swayman has kept himself fit during his contract negotiations, skating at Boston University with coach Jay Pandolfo, who was a former Bruins assistant. The team greeted Swayman's return with a bit of levity, at the end of Monday's practice, his teammates tapped their sticks on the ice to prompt him to take a full lap around the rink. Swayman said it was "the fastest lap" he's ever taken.

With Jeremy Swayman now pegged as the undisputed number one goalie, the Bruins are banking on him to take charge this season. Happy to be back, everything has just fallen into place with head coach Jim Montgomery, as the players seem to have rallied around him. The wait has been long, and now the hockey world waits with bated breath for the final product this season.
