Brad Marchand shares his thoughts on the contract dispute between the Boston Bruins and their goaltender Jeremy Swayman.

There's no doubt that Jeremy Swayman has established himself among the NHL's goaltending elite in recent years.

Last season, he played an important role in the playoffs, helping the Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in seven games. Even if they fell short in the second round against the Florida Panthers, he showed that at 25 years old, he can perform at a high level in the NHL. The best thing about this is that his best years are still ahead of him.

The Bruins are in a position to lock up their number one goalie for the long term, but unfortunately, the negotiations haven't been that simple.

Indeed, multiple reports confirmed that there's a huge difference between what Swayman asked for and what the Bruins offered him.

By trading away the 2023 Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this summer, the Bruins made it clear that they plan on keeping Swayman for a long time.

With that in mind, it would be pointless for Bruins fans to worry about the situation. However, where it gets a bit more stressful is that he's yet to sign a deal, and the season opener is less than a month away. While they still have time to get it done, there's a general concern that he could miss the first few starts of the season.

However, captain Brad Marchand doesn't seem too fazed by the situation. In an interview during the Bruins' Foundation annual golf tournament, he said that the situation is out of their hands, but it'll be great to see this whole matter get "squared away":

"It's a big topic of conversation with the fans and the media, and this is part of the business, and we all are really looking forward to when it does get done and the process is over and he is back with the group. But that's obviously out of our hands and we don't get involved in any of that. So it'll be great when everything gets kind of squared away."

Of course, Marchand is being a good leader and wants to show his teammates that patience is key. He doesn't seem afraid, however, of putting pressure on management to make it happen.
