This afternoon Boston Bruins forward Matthew Poitras spoke to the media ahead of his return home to Toronto for his first NHL game against the Maple Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most popular teams in the NHL and across Canada and as a result, a lot of NHLers from Canada grew up Maple Leafs fans. One of those players who grew up a Maple Leafs fan is Boston Bruins forward Matthew Poitras who now plays for the rival Boston Bruins.

Bruins young star Matthew Poitras opens up about facing his childhood team

Ahead of the game Matthew Poitras addressed the media during a press conference and was asked about playing his hometown team the Toronto Maple Leafs. He confirmed he is excited and is looking forward to hopefully taking down his childhood team.

I was kind of a Leafs fan growing up so I wanna be my best and beat the Leafs, said Poitras on Saturday.

He also confirmed that a lot of his friends and family are Toronto Maple Leafs fans. As a result, he will have a lot of people watching from home but not all of them will necessarily be hoping he wins.

All my buddies are Leafs fans so I'm sure they will all be watching, admitted Poitras. All my friends are Leafs fans, whole family friends a lot of them are Leafs fans.

According to Matthew Poitras, he will be lined up alongside captain Brad Marchand and Charlie Coyle. This will give him an opportunity to play on a scoring line and potentially get on the stat sheet with family in attendance.

The Bruins have gotten off to a slow start this season and part of that is due to lack of depth scoring. This has caused some drama for the Bruins involving the future of captain Marchand in Boston. If Matthew Poitras can find a way to produce he could become a very valuable piece of the Bruins lineup.

Puck drop for tonight's game is scheduled for 7 pm as the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs are both looking to find their groove and get back on track toward controlling the Eastern Conference.
