The Calgary Flames are a team on the rebuild, and now they've brought back a former first-round draft pick on a one-year deal. Despite the Calgary Flames looking towards the future this summer, their roster still features plenty of veterans, and it's making it hard for some former first-round picks to crack the NHL. That's the case for not only Matt Coronato, but Jakob Pelletier as well, but the 23-year old has now inked a new deal with the Flames, according to Elliotte Friedman.

The one-year deal carries a value of $800k, and will be a two-way deal, allowing him to spend time in the AHL, and after injuries cost him plenty of time a season ago, the team may be patient in allowing him to further develop before giving him a true role in the league. Last season, Pelletier scored just one goal in 13 NHL games, but with the Calgary Wranglers he thrived, netting 5 goals and 12 points in 18 games played, showing that while he's yet to star in the NHL, he still has plenty of potential. With the likes of Blake Coleman, Andrei Kuzmenko and Anthony Mantha all considered trade chips heading into the 2024/25 season, Pelletier could potentially find his way into the NHL again, but for now, he's going to have to prove it before finding a permanent role with the Flames moving forward.
