A Russian prospect of the Calgary Flames broke a major rule of the International Ice Hockey Federation and should face consequences soon.

This morning, the insider Darren Dreger reported that the Flames' prospect Nikita Okhotyuk has signed a deal with the CSKA in the KHL, despite being under contract with the Flames until July 1st.

"Nikita Okhotyuk has signed a 2 year deal with CSKA. Clearly no concern with the intentional ban that remains in effect."

Philadelphia Flyers' goalie Ivan Fedotov was in the same kind of situation, when he played a season in the KHL despite even if he had a contract with the Flyers.

Fedotov was suspended three years on the International level by the IIHF, and the same consequences are expected for the Flames' defenseman.

"In violation of the IIHF International Transfer Regulations. to allow a player to play without an approved international transfer) and, in violation of his NHL Standard Player Contract (SPC)"

Okhotyuk, 23, was drafted 61st overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2019. Since then, he played mostly in the AHL, but also took part in 67 NHL games for the Devils, San Jose Sharks, and Calgary Flames.

Do you think Nikita Okhotyuk has played the last NHL game of his career?
