Tyson Barrie's name has come up in free agency discussions all off-season long, but now the former Edmonton Oiler is headed back to Canada on a PTO.

The Calgary Flames have had a solid off-season thus far for a rebuilding squad, and after the additions of veterans Ryan Lomberg and Anthony Mantha, they've now added another. After weeks of speculation on the future of Tyson Barrie, including connections to the rival Edmonton Oilers, he has now inked a Professional Try Out with the Flames as he looks to make an intriguing blue line and rejuvenate his NHL career.

Right now, the Flames defensive group consists of Rasmus Andersson, Daniil Miromanov, Kevin Bahl and Mackenzie Weegar, with the other two spots up for grabs, and while the Flames have some incredibly talented prospects coming through, the opportunities may be there. Barrie, the 33-year old native of Victoria BC is just one year removed from 55 points split between Edmonton and Nashville, and while he struggled in 2023/24 with the Predators, ultimately leading to his release, he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

Ultimately however, this move is one for the future of the Flames, as they will look to give him playing time if he makes the team to raise his stock, and if that can happen, they may be looking at a player that can get them a solid asset at the deadline which will certainly help speed up the current rebuild.
