The Edmonton Oilers have officially inked Leon Draisaitl to a record-breaking deal, and now the star forward has opened up on the decision to remain in Edmonton.

For months now, the speculation surrounding Leon Draisaitl has been a leading story in Edmonton, and on Tuesday, the two parties finally stopped the questions, inking No. 29 to a deal that carries a $14 million AAV over eight years.

While some may be shocked at the annual value of Draisaitl's newest deal, him remaining an Oiler shouldn't be seen the same way, as the belief has long been held that Draisaitl wanted to remain with the team alongside Connor McDavid. In his first interview since the deal became official, he reiterated those sentiments, revealing his desire to stay with the team for the rest of his career.

I'm really happy and excited to hopefully be an Oiler for life

Eight years will take Draisaitl until his age 36 season, so he will likely still have plenty of gas left in the tank once this deal is done, but if he can have Stanley Cup success alongside Connor McDavid during that time, it's highly likely that he'll never walk away from the team. Up next is a potential extension for his superstar teammate in the summer of 2025, and if both can be locked in which is highly likely given their love for this team, get ready for an era of success in Edmonton as the team continues their chase for their first Stanley Cup since 1990.
