Detroit Red Wings place 4.75 million dollar goaltender on waivers after he gets lit up in his debut

Today the Detroit Red Wings have made the shocking decision to place one-half of their high-priced goalie duo Ville Husso on waivers today.

The Detroit Red Wings are trying to make their way back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after several years of being denied. A big part of their plans was to have a pair of veteran goaltenders Cam Talbot and Ville Husso to allow the talented players in the Red Wings lineup to take more risks.

In Ville Husso's debut for the season with the Detroit Red Wings, things did not go well. Facing the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday Husso struggled immensely. He faced just 14 shots while giving up 4 goals in just over 25 minutes of play. Ville Husso was eventually pulled and replaced by his counterpart Cam Talbot.

Now a couple of days later the Detroit Red Wings have made the shocking decision to waive Ville Husso who is in the final season of a 3-year contract worth 4.75 million dollars per season.

With Ville Husso waived the Detroit Red Wings will now move on to plan B for their goaltending position.

Red Wings likely to turn to top prospect Sebastian Cossa

Likely the Red Wings plan is to give former first-round pick Sebastian Cossa an opportunity to play at the NHL level. Through 2 AHL games this season, Cossa has an impressive 2.01 goals against average and a 0.941 save percentage. Sebastian Cossa was named the 2nd star of the week in the AHL for this past week.

With Sebastian Cossa likely coming up the Detroit Red Wings could potentially turn to him as the starter immediately. Getting Sebastian Cossa NHL reps is likely the most important thing for all parties involved at this point.
