The Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin could face a possible suspension after landing a dirty hit to the head during a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 2024-25 NHL preseason has definitely been one of the most intense we've seen in recent years. Unfortunately, it led to many key players being injured before the regular season even started. We saw many AHLer going after NHLers in order to get noticed by their organization, but a recent incident showed that it can also go the other way. Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings were on the ice and the Wings captain Dylan Larkin landed a dangerous hit on Marshall Rifai, a member of the Leafs organization set to play for the Marlies next season. Check out the hit here:

Larkin received a two-minute minor penalty, and Rifai stayed in the game. While we don't often see the NHL Department of Player Safety make a ruling for incidents where players weren't handed out game misconducts, some believe Larkin should face consequences for his hit on Rifai. With all the debates surrounding the preseason, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman seemed opened to discussions. He even stated recently that this topic will be adressed in the next League meeting. We've heard that. We've heard that. It's on the list of things to think about. Meanwhile, we're eager to see what the DoPS will decide to do about Larkin. A verdict is expected soon, stay tuned.
