Connor McDavid had an incredible Stanley Cup Playoffs last year, and now he's addressed the situation involving the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Last season, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers fell just one game short of clinching their first Stanley Cup since way back in 1990, losing a tight Game 7 on the road against the Florida Panthers. One of the main talking points coming out of that game was Connor McDavid, as the Oilers captain would ultimately be honoured with the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP, but after being announced as the winner, he was nowhere to be seen.

Since that point, McDavid has revealed there was no way he was leaving his heartbroken Oilers locker room to accept an award, and now he's opened up on the situation a little more.

I wouldn't have gone out there for a million dollars.

There's likely several reasons for this, as McDavid is clearly looking for team success as opposed to individual awards, and on top of that, he would have had to face a raucous Florida Panthers crowd that wanted to see either Sam Reinhart or Sergei Bobrovsky given the award. On the surface, giving McDavid the award wasn't a bad call by the voters, but given the scenario, it would have made sense to look at a player from the team that won the Stanley Cup, and the Florida crowd led the NHL's Commissioner know about it.

Ultimately, those fans were much more excited to see the team lift the Stanley Cup for the first time in team history however, and while many fans criticized McDavid for not accepting the award, it wasn't the worst move from the Oilers captain, who now clearly remains focused on one thing and one thing only in 2024/25; the Stanley Cup.
