Today a new report has cast a shadow over the future of Edmonton Oilers defenseman Vincent Desharnais. The report from Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug has confirmed that the two sides have put an end to contract talks for the time being.

The Edmonton Oilers and veteran defenseman Vincent Desharnais had been working toward a contract extension for much of this season. Today a report from NHL insider Ryan Rishaug has confirmed that contract talks are on hold during the playoffs.

Sounds like talks on a Desharnais extension are on hold for now. Two sides had been discussing a deal but with playoffs coming, they'll pause and resume after the team is finished.

While this does not mean that the two sides will not agree on a deal it does lessen the time they have to work out a deal. Vincent Desharnais is set to be a free agent at the end of this season. If he makes it to free agency the 6'6, 27-year-old defenseman is expected to draw plenty of interest.
