Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid forced to leave game against the Blue Jackets due to lower-body injury

Tonight reports are confirming that Edmonton Oilers superstar and captain Connor McDavid will be out for the rest of the game due to a lower-body injury.

The Edmonton Oilers' nightmare beginning to their NHL season continues as tonight Connor McDavid has gotten injured. Early in the game Connor McDavid was tripped along the wall by Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Ivan Provorov and fell to the ice and then returned to the bench.

Connor McDavid would head right down the tunnel with the trainers and not be seen for a significant portion of the first period. After missing several minutes in the first period it was officially announced that Connor McDavid would be out for the rest of the game with a lower-body injury.

This injury of course is catastrophic for the Edmonton Oilers. Throughout his career, Connor McDavid has been the unquestioned best player in the NHL and carried the team to the Stanley Cup Finals last season. Without him, a major portion of the Edmonton Oilers offensive production disappears. It has not been confirmed what Connor McDavid's exact injury is or how long he might miss.

With Connor McDavid out of the lineup, even more pressure will be placed on Leon Draisaitl to take over as one of the best players in the NHL. Beyond that Corey Perry, Zach Hyman, and several other struggling forwards will need to find their game immediately to fill the massive gap that has now been left in the Edmonton Oilers lineup.
