Stan Bowman, new GM of the Edmonton Oilers, has a lot of work to do to get the team under the salary cap, and that might mean trading away some players.

The Oilers have overspent to nearly $400,000 over the salary cap, which means they will likely have to make some trades or possibly buyout others. Two players that come to mind are Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.

Many fans are wondering what it's going to cost the team to sign these two players, and Oilers Now host Bob Staueffer believes it'll likely be just over $1 million. This would put the Oilers over the cap by $3 million or so, so Bowman would need to figure out how to get back under the cap after signing these two players.

The @EdmontonOilers Dylan Holloway saw significant time in EDM's top 9 FWDS during the Stanley Cup Playoffs and responded with 5 goals. Despite the additions of Jeff Skinner and Victor Arvidsson I have a sneaking suspicion that Holloway will play his way up the line-up this season.

Players will likely be at risk of being traded now that Bowman will have to get his team back under the cap. Holloway and Broberg could be quickly traded after they are signed, as we have seen many NHL teams in the past sign players and immediately trade them.

It's a guarantee that the Oilers will be making moves over the next month or so to get back under the cap, as they won't be able to start the season in the situation they're currently in. It will be very interesting to see how Bowman fixes the reckless spending that happened before his arrival.
