With the Detroit Red Wings taking an early lead over the Edmonton Oilers things looked to be getting away from the struggling Oilers once again. The Red Wings took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from J.T. Compher.

This is when Perry decided to step in and challenged Veleno to a fight. Joe Veleno came out swinging and took control of the fight early. The experience of Corey Perry eventually took over and he got in several good punches and eventually dominated Joe Veleno before the pair were separated. This is the second time this season that Corey Perry decided to drop his gloves. Earlier in the season against the Flyers Perry also fought trying to help his team get momentum. While Corey Perry has struggled to find success offensively he is still bringing value with his physicality and veteran leadership. The fight overall seems to have done the trick for the Oilers as they went from being outshot 11 to 2 at the time of the fight to now having 11 shots to Detroit's 14 shots. At the moment the Edmonton Oilers still trail the Detroit Red Wings 1-0. If they can come back and take the lead in this game the fight from Corey Perry will be looked back at as a turning point. Either way, the aggressiveness and overall heart from Corey Perry will continue to help him earn respect from the fans and his teammates.
