Evander Kane hobbled through the Edmonton Oilers' run to the Stanley Cup Final this year, skating through several injuries that might need summer surgery. It's possible Kane could miss the entire regular season if he needs to go under the knife for his hip. Oilers President Jeff Jackson confirmed Kane's hip issue that the team is discussing next steps, which includes a trade. But if [Kane] does require hip surgery, it would seem unlikely he'd be ready to start the season. When healthy he was very effective with aggressiveness and necessary for team. If he gets health back, he is something Oilers don't have

The Oilers are currently $2.4 million over the NHL salary cap, so they'll need to make some roster moves get under. To all the um he scored 24 goals Kane is the only Oilers F to be outscored at 5v5 in the past two seasons (and in each of them as well). They lost his minutes 70-77. He also got outscored in the past two playoffs. He also puts them on the PK at the highest rate on the team.

Yet, it's possible Edmonton hangs onto the forward regardless of what the medical records say as they could always LTIR him and take him off the official roster if he will be sidelined for several months. He was going through an issue with his hip. We are going through the process to see what will occur and he is getting the best care and advice from our doctors. We will discuss options with him and his agent (Dan Milstein), and get second opinions. That is where we are at and nothing is planned ( surgery or just rest/rehab) at this point,» Jeff Jackson on Kane's health.

With the recent signings of Victor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner, someone has to go. There's two years and $5.125 million left on Kane's contract, and the Oilers could get a haul back for the 32 year-old which could make the reigning runner-ups even stronger.
