Tonight former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Philip Broberg went down on the ice with a serious-looking lower-body injury.

The St. Louis Blues this summer decided to sign Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to offer sheets from the Edmonton Oilers. After the Oilers decided to not match the contracts offered by the Blues both players were free to go to St. Louis.

Since signing with the Blues Philip Broberg has had his career take off. In 11 games to this point in the season Philip Broberg tallied 9 total points. However, tonight he seems to have hit a major roadblock. On a play in the corner, Philip Broberg got hit and suffered what looks to be a knee injury. He would be tended to by medical personnel and eventually helped off the ice without putting weight on the leg.

This is a huge setback for both the St. Louis Blues and Philip Broberg. He was finally enjoying some success after being separated from the Edmonton Oilers. Now it seems he might have a significant recovery ahead due to this potential lower-body injury. According to a report from Elliotte Friedman Philip Broberg will not return to tonight's game.

Despite this frustrating moment for the St. Louis Blues things are going well for them on the scoreboard. After going down 1-0 to the Toronto Maple Leafs the Blues came roaring back with 3 unanswered goals 2 of which have come from defenseman Colton Parayko.

At the moment it is unknown exactly how severe Philip Broberg's injury is or what recovery might be ahead for him. As more information comes out regarding Philip Broberg and his health going forward this season we will pass along the latest news.
