On a new episode of his podcast former Hockey Night in Canada personality Don Cherry caused some controversy with his comments on Wayne Gretzky. Wayne Gretzky is widely regarded as the best player in the history of the NHL and to back that up he holds several scoring records. While Wayne Gretzky currently holds the goal-scoring record Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin is quickly approaching the record.

With Alex Ovechkin approaching the NHL goal-scoring record debate has begun over the most unbreakable NHL record that will be left standing. Many fans and media believe that record also belongs to Wayne Gretzky and his incredible 2,857 points which is 936 ahead of Jaromir Jagr who currently sits in second place. While many fans and media agree that this is the most unbreakable record in the NHL former NHL head coach and analyst Don Cherry disagrees and believes a record held by Glenn Hall is the one to beat.
Don Cherry causes controversy and debate over most unbreakable record
In a new episode of The Don Cherry's Grapevine Show the controversial and legendary hockey analyst decided to take a unique position on the most unbreakable record. According to Don Cherry the most unbreakable record in the NHL is the record of 552 games started Iron Man streak by goaltender Glenn Hall. When talking about Glenn Hall's incredible record Don Cherry made sure to take a subtle shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs. That 552 will never, ever be broken, Cherry said. They don't even play two in a row. Now, I know that's crazy. The Maple Leafs played back-to-back; they played Detroit, and then they played last night again this Sunday morning, last night they played Montreal, and there was no question that they weren't going to do back-to-back playing. While it is hard to fathom a record being more unbreakable than Wayne Gretzky's career points record if there is one that is at that level it would be Glenn Hall's Playing over 500 games straight as a goaltender is just absolutely unheard of. If a goaltender plays over 60 games in a season in today's NHL he is considered an elite workhorse. With this in mind, Glenn Hall's record isn't going anywhere unless something drastic changes. However, with scoring going back up each season in the NHL we could eventually see a scoring boom that puts Wayne Gretzky's scoring record in reach. At the moment both players hold incredible places in history that will likely continue to stand for decades unbroken but it will be fun to see which record goes down as the most unbreakable.
