Following the Edmonton Oilers' loss in game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe trophy and completely snubbed Gary Bettman. J.S. Giguere was the last player to win the Conn Smythe despite being on the losing side prior to McDavid, and he had a lot to say regarding Connor's snub. Giguere believes that McDavid should have been the bigger man and went to accept the award. I feel for Connor, he played so well and he deserved that trophy in my mind. I do think that he should have gone and accepted the trophy. The game is always bigger than the individual and this is a major trophy for the NHL, and it would have shown kids that winning or losing, you still present yourself the right way and accept your fate.

Giguere went as far as saying that McDavid's actions caused a very bad look on the NHL from an outsider's perspective. Giguere knows exactly what McDavid was feeling in the moment of defeat, as he too went through that exact same heartbreak during the 2003 playoffs, when he put up ridiculously good numbers in the crease, only to fall short in the Stanley Cup finals. He remained on the ice to accept the Conn Smythe trophy from Bettman, which is why he isn't too pleased with McDavid. 6/09/2003: Jean-Sebastien Giguere becomes the first #NHLducks player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. He also becomes the fifth (and most recent) winner from a non-winning team in the Stanley Cup Final.

This most recent snubbing by McDavid will likely be forgotten in the weeks to come, and we can be assured that if the Oilers and McDavid finally do win the Cup, I think it's pretty safe to say, all bets would be on McDavid to accept that trophy, that's for sure.
