Exciting times for the Calgary Flames, but it looks like they've just waived a young forward who could be a great fit for GM Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens. With their young prospect pool forming into their own, like Samuel Honzek, Matt Coronato, Connor Zary, and Adam Klapka, GM Craig Conroy had to make some tough decisions. Unfortunately, Jakob Pelletier, their 2019 first-round pick, was the one to go.

It's a surprising, but considering how many younger players have passed him in the hierarchy, but is understandable. Pelletier's been limited by injuries, playing just 37 games over the last few years and managing only 4 goals and 10 points. And let's not forget, he's a Quebec native, which ties him to Montreal, but the Columbus Blue Jackets could also be interested.

He hasn't lived up to the hype yet, but we know he has first-round talent. If he lands with a team where he can shine, we could finally see him take off.

The Flames have clearly moved on, but the Canadiens should keep a close eye on this situation. Pelletier could be a solid addition if they're looking to bolster their young talent!
