Former NHL player and current on-air host Paul Bissonnette took to the airwaves to completely blast the New York Islanders for their pathetic start to the season. The New York Islanders presently sit middle-of-the-pack within the NHL's Metropolitan Division, lagging their in-state counterparts, the New York Rangers. However, that position alone has drawn sharp criticism from a former NHL player. On Saturday night, Paul Bissonnette had taken to social media with some strongly critical words for the Islanders after they'd blown an early first-period lead and then gone and blown a two-goal third-period lead en route to an overtime loss at the hands of the New Jersey Devils. They came away with a point, yes, but that didn't seem to matter to Bissonnette.

Bissonnette's words were sharp, and it will be more interesting to see how the Islanders organization as a whole takes the comments with high-profile names like GM Lou Lamoriello and head coach Patrick Roy at the helm. Both are ultra-competitive, and they surely won't take the critique lying down. The Islanders have been muddling along, going just 4-5-1 over their last ten games. They now find themselves four points behind the Rangers and seven points back of the division-leading Devils. While those are not insurmountable deficits this early in the year, the Islanders need to turn things around for themselves. How the Islanders respond in the next few weeks will be interesting, after Bissonnette's comments. The team has shown flashes of brilliance in the past, and they have found ways to always get games past 60 minutes, however, their latest stretch of games where they blow leads is unacceptable if they want to find themselves remaining competitive for the next few months of the season.
