Today five years after being fired from his role on Hockey Night in Canada Don Cherry has opened up about the incident and what he has learned since. Don Cherry was synonymous with the game of hockey for many decades. After a successful coaching career, Don Cherry transitioned into a media role alongside Ron MacLean on Hockey Night in Canada. Don Cherry's legendary Coaches Corner would go on to bring joy to millions of hockey fans all across the world. In 2019 it would all come crashing down for Don Cherry after comments he made regarding Canadians wearing a poppy in support of veterans on Remembrance Day. A few days after his comments Don Cherry would be let go by Hockey Night in Canada and Coach's Corner was no more. Now five years after the incident on television Don Cherry has broken his silence on how he feels now about the events that led to his release. <h3>Don Cherry breaks his silence five years after being fired from Hockey Night in Canada</h3> In a new interview with the Toronto Sun, Don Cherry spoke about the events that led to his firing. With remembrance day coming up and the poppy being worn by Canadians once again Don Cherry decided to finally speak about his side of things. I don't see any change, said Cherry with sadness in his voice. You go downtown you don't see any poppies. As he did when he was originally released Don Cherry still confirms he feels no regrets or need to apologize for his actions that day. I have no regrets about the poppy, answered Cherry when asked about whether or not he had any regrets. The only thing Don Cherry would admit is that he does miss being a part of Hockey Night in Canada and not being able to continue on with the passions he had for decades for the game of hockey. I have regrets when I see the guys on television and I think of the fun I could have had, said Cherry. I could have gone on for another couple of years, but it was time to go As for Don Cherry's message to those who still support him in 2024, it is similar to that of 2019 support remembrance day and wear your poppy. Wear one and give twenty bucks, said Cherry. That's what I give all the time and I grab a handful.
