During today's afternoon game between the Rangers and the Devils, New Jersey was seen humiliating New York and their fans on the team's big jumbotron. Monday was the latest low point. Veteran forward Chris Kreider was a healthy scratch for a second straight game, anthe Rangers were embarrassed by the New Jersey Devils. So this becomes the sad collapse of a New York Rangers team that seemed, for a while, good for racking up amazing regular-season records. But today's performance put them as nothing but adrift, clueless, with no confidence; and massive changes are rumored to come. The Devils opened the game in a frenzy, racing to a 5-0 lead over their Metropolitan Division rivals and leaving the Rangers reeling. And just for good measure, the Devils ran a video during the game that trolled the Rangers and their fans, replaying the 2019 reactions of their fans when New Jersey selected Jack Hughes as the No. 1 overall draft pick.

The clip then cut to Hughes, now an NHL rising star, grinning on the bench. Back in 2019, Rangers fans had desperately hoped the Devils would pass on Jack Hughes, a player in which they'd get to claim as their talented centerman. Instead, the Rangers selected Finnish winger Kaapo Kakko at No. 2, who they were so hopeful to become a franchise cornerstone. Moving forward five years, Hughes is one of the brightest stars in the league, and Kaapo Kakko's time in New York ended in heartbreak, and culminated in a trade just the other day. The game only continued to get worse for the Rangers as the Devils continued piling it on to leave the entire team in shambles. The brief holiday break is at hand, providing the Rangers a little window to regroup and reassess. A once-promising outlook of this franchise offers anything but hope, and the team officially sits one game below .500.
