Rangers punish rookie forward Matt Rempe for recent performance

After the Rangers completed their sweep over the Capitals, it came to the attention of twitter that Matt Rempe appeared to be benched.

After game 4 last night, ESPN's Greg Wyshynski raised an interesting point about rookie enforcer Matt Rempe's playing time.





The tweet gained traction quickly, and fans came to a conclusion as to a potential reason for the benching. Rempe had a bit of a defensive breakdown on one of Washington's goal, and didn't see the ice following the play. A video can be found below.




Plays like that certainly aren't acceptable in tight playoff games, and could be why Rempe had to ride the pine for a bit.

Only time will tell if this trend will continue.
