In what seemed like a never-ending saga, the Ottawa Senators appear to be finally relocating to a downtown arena near Parliament Hill. The Senators have called the CTC home since 1996, opening the barn with a game against the Montreal Canadiens on January 17, 1996. Nearly three decades later, it seems the Senators, along with the NCC, are on the cusp of an agreement for land at LeBreton Flats for a new arena, with word of an official announcement potentially coming as early as this week. Insider reports say a deal is near at hand, with the deadline for finalizing a land lease drawing close. Of course, this represents just the first in a long line of dominos that would see the team move quickly toward getting the project under construction and, perhaps, a little sooner than thought, onto the ice. As it stands right now, should everything go according to plan, the Senators could be playing in their new arena as early as the 2030 NHL season.

When first built, the CTC was a high-hope arena that was out of the way for fans and placed in an inconveniently remote location. This new arena would be located in downtown Ottawa only minutes from Parliament Hill and would provide far better accessibility and convenience for fans across the region. Senators owner Michael Andlauer, who purchased the team in June of 2023, was given a 12-month extension by NCC CEO Tobi Nussbaum to determine the viability of the new arena project. It would appear now that the dream by Andlauer is near reality, which would keep the team in Ottawa for many years to come.
