In one of the most unexpected shocking twists of the season, it was revealed that a top starting goaltender will be placed on waivers today by the Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will place their top starting goaltender on waivers today at 2 PM, in one of the most shocking waiver moves of the season.

Tristan Jarry has struggled mightily

The 29-year-old Jarry has struggled this season, going 8-7-4 with a .886 save percentage and a 3.32 goals-against average in 21 games.

Tristan Jarry is in the second year of a lengthy five-year, $28.66 million contract that carries a cap hit of 5.38 million. He has lost his last five outings in a row, most recently stopping 14 of 17 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Lightning on Sunday.

Jarry led the NHL with six shutouts and had a .903 save percentage and 2.91 GAA last season, which is quite the turnaround this year.

He has spent his entire nine-year NHL career in Pittsburgh with the Penguins, totaling 144 regular season wins with a .910 save percentage and 2.74 GAA.

The Penguins enter Wednesday's action at 18-20-8, good for sixth in the Metropolitan Division with 44 points. They have dropped seven of their last eight games, which has led them to fall even further down in the playoff race.

Once the official announcement is made today at 2 PM, teams will have 24 hours to put in a claim for the netminder, so we will know by tomorrow what the future has in store for him.
