Nashville's top goaltending prospect, Yaroslav Askarov, just made a big splash by requesting a trade, and now he's headed to the San Jose Sharks.

With this move, Askarov is expected to take over as the Sharks' starting goaltender, bumping McKenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek down the depth chart.

It's not all that surprising when you look at how things were shaping up in Nashville. The Predators have committed to Juuse Saros with an eight-year, $7.74 million AAV extension, and they also brought in Scott Wedgewood to back him up. So, Askarov's trade request makes sense. He even mentioned earlier this week that he was planning to hold out of training camp if things didn't change.

GM Barry Trotz had initially pushed back, saying he still expected Askarov to show up, but now it's clear that won't be happening-he's officially on his way to the Sharks, joining their loaded pool of youngsters.

Looks like we've got a new goalie to watch between the pipes in San Jose!
