The Winnipeg Jets traded Rutger McGroarty on Thursday to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and now we know exactly why the prospect forced the Jets hand.

Over the past few months, the Rutger McGroarty situation has captured the attention of Winnipeg Jets fans everywhere, and on Thursday, it shockingly came to an end with the trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the deal, the team will get back 2023 first-round pick Brayden Yager, who has the potential to be a future star for the Jets, with McGroarty set to be a future star for the Penguins. While the deal was a long time coming, the reason behind the move is what has shocked fans, with Kevin Cheveldayoff opening up on what happened to force the trade from Winnipeg.

According to Cheveldayoff, McGroarty's agent informed him that it simply 'didn't feel right' for McGroarty, with that process starting back at development camp, leading to the Thursday trade. Ultimately, moving him was the best move, because he has proven to be more drama than he's worth at this stage of his career, and now, the Jets can move forward with the squad that they've got as they chase success in the present and in the future.
