A closed-door meeting occurred between Leafs head coach Craig Berube and WIlliam Nylander, and now one insider has leaked the information that was discussed.

William Nylander ended an eight-game drought against Carolina, and at last, has seemed more urgent and committed on the ice. This could just be his break towards going back into his usual form among the most elite scorers of the NHL.

In an otherwise dismal evening, that was little for Toronto Maple Leafs fans to cheer for. For as good as Nylander was, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner had a night to forget, finishing with a wretched minus-6 rating apiece.

It's a glaring concern, especially the team prepares to face a Vancouver squad eager to make a statement.

NHL insider reveals what went down in closed-door meeting

Head coach Craig Berube isn't letting anyone off the hook, though. He recently sat down with Nylander for a frank talk about creating scoring chances through hard work instead of waiting around for things to happen.

«That's what I see with Willy: a little bit of lack of confidence,» Berube said pre-game. «He's not playing with the same pace right now.»

Via Sportsnet's Luke Fox, the challenge really seemed to hit home with Nylander. While Nylander's scoring slump tested the Maple Leafs' resolve, they stayed afloat thanks to offensive explosions from Matthews, Marner, and rising star Matthew Knies.

Still, consistency remains an issue for a team with championship aspirations. This season, Nylander has 24 goals and 20 assists in 43 games, even with his recent dip in form, and has been one of the main reasons for Toronto's success this season, proving why he is considered one of the elites in the NHL.

While this may just be the resurgence of Nylander to finally spark a Maple Leafs bounce-back,

Toronto needs more than moments of individual brilliance; they need their stars firing on all cylinders to silence the growing questions about their inconsistency.
