A notable NHL Insider has revealed some highly concerning details regarding the health leading to the absence of Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews. Chris Johnston of TSN confirmed the speculation regarding Matthews' health, and after a dominant game-two performance against the Boston Bruins, Matthew's was not the same. The Maple Leafs, with Auston Matthews in the lineup, would fall to a familiar 3-1 series deficit against the Bruins in their first-round series. Unfortunately for Toronto, they would also lose Matthews in game four of the series.

Ahead of game six in Boston, Auston Matthews was ruled out by Sheldon Keefe in the morning of the familiar battle for both teams.

Anyone who truly thinks Auston Matthews doesn't want to be out there competing for the Toronto Maple Leafs is completely insane. Clearly, this situation is serious enough that keeping him out was the best decision. His health comes first, playoffs or not. When Matthews didn't practice ahead of game three, there were some concerns, but concerns heightened when he was pulled from game four by team doctors at the end of the second period. After being forced to miss game five and now for sure out for game six, Chris Johnston confirmed it may be more than just an illness. We will not know the full extent of this illness or injury until when or if the Maple Leafs are eliminated from playoffs. There are signs that things may be progressing as he skated for around 30 minutes today, but that remains to be seen as injuries could worsen in any case and in any way.
