The Maple Leafs sadly announced today that Max Pacioretty would be placed on injured reserve and he is expected to be gone week-to-week.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Pacioretty has gone on injured reserve and will be out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

"Sad for Pacioretty, it's extensive," Dreger said Monday morning. "Nobody's going to disclose the specifics of the injury. I think we could all see that he was grabbing the back of his leg, upper leg, right? When he went down on the ice, we saw him get helped off the ice. So at that point you knew that he was in considerable pain. I think we'll hear more about that today."

The 35-year-old veteran was injured in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Late in the game, Pacioretty went down awkwardly after a collision with Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson near the Montreal net, seemingly injuring his left leg. He required assistance to get off the ice and did not return.

The injury is a step back for Pacioretty, who in his first season with Toronto has scored two goals and four assists in 12 games thus far.

He was originally drafted 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens back in 2007 and has compiled 332 goals and 674 points over 915 contests between the Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, and Maple Leafs.

At home against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, Toronto has to juggle the lineup with Pacioretty unavailable to play.

It remains to be seen whether Auston Matthews will return from his injury for that game, as the earliest date he is set to return can be against the Senators on Tuesday.
