The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some big moves this summer, and if Craig Berube has his way, the big Mitch Marner trade won't be happening. After another disappointing playoff performance, Mitch Marner has been in plenty of trade proposals this off-season, but a few weeks ago, new Head Coach Craig Berube admitted that he would love to have Marner remain in Toronto to have the chance to coach him.

Now, in his latest interview with The Star, Berube doubled down on his support of No. 16, revealing just how excited he is to be coaching Marner heading into a Stanley Cup or bust 2024/25 campaign; (Marner is) a character guy, Berube told McGran. He's a great person. Obviously, a great player. I'm looking forward to coaching him.

The ultimate power still rests with GM Brad Treliving however, and if he gets off to a solid start in 2024/25, the team may look at extending his contract. The further we go into the off-season however, it appears more and more likely that he'll be on the team when the season begins, and with Berube's support and coaching style, we may see the best version of Marner that anyone has ever seen in the NHL.
