Today current Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube spoke out in support of former Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery after he was recently fired. The NHL can be a brutal business for all involved including players, GMs, and coaches. The Toronto Maple Leafs got a taste of this last season after being knocked out of the playoffs by the Boston Bruins and then firing head coach Sheldon Keefe. Despite Sheldon Keefe having great regular season success with the Maple Leafs not getting over the hump in the playoffs was enough to let him go. For Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery, the opposite was true this week as he was fired after his team had a truly awful start to the regular season.

Over his time with the Boston Bruins, Jim Montgomery lost just 41 total games in regulation and unfortunately, enough of those came this season that GM Don Sweeney needed to make a change.

Since he was fired the Bruins have faced a lot of backlash from fans and the media who believe Jim Montgomery was a scapegoat for a poorly constructed roster. Now tonight several NHL head coaches including Craig Berube have spoken out in support of Jim Montgomery and against the Bruins.
Craig Berube and other head coach support recently fired Jim Montgomery
Since the news was made public several head coaches have been asked about the firing of one of their colleagues. First was former Boston Bruins and current Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy who knows Jim Montgomery's situation all too well. In addition, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube confirmed that he reached out to Jim Montgomery who was one of his former assistant coaches while in St. Louis.

Craig Berube continued and said he feels for coaches when this happens as they all know just how tough this business is and how tough moments like those are.

From all early indications it seems like Jim Montgomery is well thought of around the NHL and will likely get another opportunity to be a head coach in the near future.
