The Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving are looking to create some cap space and an NHL insider believes Nick Robertson is the top trade target now. On Wednesday, Dave Pagnotta of 'The Fourth Period' was on the NHL Network, and the topic turned to what might be done by the Toronto Maple Leafs in terms of lineup movement. Pagnotta mentioned that the Leafs are, in fact, calling around on potential trades, and then went on to say two players are definitely in their sights. They don't have a ton of cap space, they don't have much at all. They are looking at ways to create additional cap but also free up a little bit of roster space. Even with Robertson locked in on that 1-year contract, I'm told he's very much in play and Brad Treliving is having conversations about the possibility of moving him. Conor Timmins' name is out there as wel... There are ways to alleviate a little bit of cap space. Of those, Conor Timmins, with his $1.1 million cap hit, has been rumored to be on the move since early September. In the mix is also Nick Robertson, who requested a trade back in June. Even though Robertson has recently signed with the Leafs for one year, some insiders suggest this was done simply to facilitate a potential move.

As training camp plays out, how Timmins and Robertson are deployed might provide some insight into what Toronto's grand plans are for each player, none more so than considering head coach Craig Berube is likely to play a central role in their deployment.
