Over the last week, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Utah HC have been linked in a potential trade that has now been put on hold due to Timothy Liljegren. The Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking to find a new home for Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren after he has struggled to get into the lineup. Brad Treliving has been reportedly speaking to several teams about a trade involving Timothy Liljegren. In recent days the Utah Hockey Club has become a prime candidate to acquire Liljegren. The Utah Hockey Club has been so closely linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs due to their major injuries on defense. Both Sean Durzi and John Marino are expected to be out long-term due to injury. With two major holes in the Utah lineup, insiders have made the natural link between Timothy Liljegren finding a new home in Utah.

Today that seems to have changed as insider Pierre LeBrun believes that Utah will not be interested in trading for Timothy Liljegren due to his contract.
Utah HC not interested in taking on Timothy Liljegren's contract
In a new report for TSN's Insider Trading, Pierre LeBrun talked about the reports potentially connecting Timothy Liljegren and Utah. However, Pierre LeBrun does not think that Timothy Liljegren being on a multi-year contract will be of interest to Utah. I know that a lot of people might look at that and say Hello, the Leafs might be open to moving Timothy Liljegren, who might be looking for a change of scenery. Why wouldn't Utah look at Liljegren? and who knows, maybe they will eventually, but for right now, I don't think he's that appealing because he has term on his deal. The problem according to Pierre LeBrun, the problem is that once Sean Durzi and John Marino return, there is likely not a spot for Timothy Liljegren to get ice time regularly. With this factored in Pierre LeBrun believes the Utah Hockey Club will likely try to survive with replacements from their AHL team for the time being. Where does he fit after Durzi and Marino come back? I think the rental piece is where Utah probably will go if they decide to make a trade, but for now, they want to stay internal and see if they can survive these injuries.

Due to this new report, it seems that Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs will have to find a new trade partner to send Timothy Liljegren off to. For now, Timothy Liljegren remains a Maple Leaf and could end up back in the lineup again before ultimately being traded away. As reports come in regarding Timothy Liljegren's future with the Maple Leafs we will pass them along to you.
