The Timothy Liljegren trade saga has continued and today a new report has connected six teams to the Maple Leafs defenseman.

Over the last several weeks the Toronto Maple Leafs have been dangling defenseman Timothy Liljegren out as trade bait. He has become an expendable member of the organization after being scratched for the first several games of the season. This led to an eventual trade request from Liljegren and the Toronto Maple Leafs have since put him on the trade block.

a new report from David Morassutti at Sportsnet has connected six teams to potential trade talks. The six teams potentially interested in Timothy Liljegren according to Sportsnet are the Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Utah Hockey Club, Dallas Stars, and Pittsburgh Penguins. In a previous article, we discussed the possibility of the Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins being involved. With that being said today we will be focused on the Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Utah Hockey Club.

Exploring where Timothy Liljegren could end up being traded to

The Chicago Blackhawks are a young team looking to potentially take a big step and make the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season. At just 25 years old Timothy Liljegren could still fit their window to compete while bridging the gap between their veteran defensemen like Connor Murphy and Seth Jones and their young defensemen Alex Vlasic, Kevin Korchinski, and Artyom Levshunov.

The Anaheim Ducks are a scenario that makes a bit less sense in my opinion. The Ducks already have a lot of young defensmen they are looking to develop both on the NHL roster and throughout their system. If they were to acquire Timothy Liljegren it would likely be just a short-term depth role to be filled instead of long term.

The Utah Hockey Club could certainly use Timothy Liljegren to round out their defensive unit. With the recent news that John Marino is expected to be out for several months that creates a big hole on their back line. With a lack of depth on defense in terms of youth Timothy Liljegren would have a chance to stick around there too.

Finally, the Columbus Blue Jackets are another organization similar to the Chicago Blackhawks. A young team looking to make it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a mix of veterans and young defensemen. Timothy Liljegren could come in and take advantage of their offensive system and potentially find new highs in points while helping bridge the gap between generations.

If all of these teams are showing interest in Timothy Liljegren it could be a good sign that the Toronto Maple Leafs might get more in return for him than they originally thought. If the Maple Leafs can use this situation to gain back a prospect or a decent draft pick it should be considered a huge win for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
